Cat Adoption Tacoma & Pierce County
Tacoma and Pierce County cats on this page come from three groups: the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, whose open shelter sits at 2608 Center Street in Tacoma, plus two foster-based rescues, Oakbrook Cat Rescue and Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue, which works out of Graham. Tacoma Humane's adoption floor is open to walk-ins, while the two smaller groups match cats to approved applicants from foster homes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment to adopt from these groups? +
It depends on the group. Tacoma Humane is open to walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis with no appointment needed, and it accepts adoption applications until 5 p.m. Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue, by contrast, requires an approved application before you meet any of its dogs or cats and does not accept walk-ins.
Where do the foster-based rescues meet adopters? +
Sunny Sky's does most of its meet and greets in Graham, where it has been rebuilding after losing its shelter to a fire in 2021. Oakbrook Cat Rescue keeps its cats in private foster homes and also shows them at Firehouse Pet Shop and Ziggy's Cat Lounge.
What if the cat I want is not ready to go home yet? +
Tacoma Humane lets you place a short adoption hold for a small non-refundable fee, which covers pets that still need spay or neuter surgery or other care. A hold does not guarantee the adoption and does not replace the usual counseling conversation.
